on christmas i spent most of the day making an inner pocket for my coat. one thing that i dislike about women's clothing is that pockets tend to suck or are nonexistent. i'm not a huge fan of carrying stuff in handbags or purses all the time and had been thinking for a long time about adding the pocket to the coat. the coat has two outer pockets but there's a good chance that anything you put in them like a wallet or cell phone could fall out. i used this fairford liberty of london fabric that i got at the workroom for the outside and a plain purple cotton fabric for the inside. it holds my wallet, cellphone and chapstick nicely now.

that day i also watched 500 days of summer with my sister. JGL looks all twinkly because the christmas lights were reflecting and stuff.

i watched this video by ok go and it totally reminded me of when you played solitaire on the computer and you finished the game and all the cards would bounce around on the screen. i friggin' loved that!

last night i dreamt i was at camp and the top people were trying to brainwash my friends and i. they'd make us wear a new pair of sunglasses every day and insisted our eyes needed protection from the sun or else we'd have eye damage. the good guys were constantly trying to send me secret messages and signs to save everyone but the bad camp guys always found a way to sabotage their attempts. one time it worked though. the box my shades came in looked a bit weird and the counsellors were suspicious but let me have my glasses. they were white plastic wayfarers with a colourful triangle and silvery pattern on them. these shades that the good guys had tampered with allowed me to see the world the way i should have always been seeing it and i saw beauty and colours and things i'd never seen or noticed before. at first i was confused and then i realized i had to get out of this place and stop the bad guys from world domination. then i woke up.

our dear friend masa is leaving canada probably forever and going back to japan tomorrow morning. i was thinking about some good times i've had with him. i remember him singing guns n' roses songs at karaoke and how hilarious and ridiculously awesome he was at it. then i remembered some videos that darbs had uploaded.

this one of may, masa and lindsay at a poulett party is probably one of my favourite videos EVER. it's just a really sweet moment and makes me feel all warm and squishy inside.

masa and lenny singing. i can't stop smiling.

i have had a pretty great christmas so far. i hope yours has been too!

love,
michelle

i have the hardest time buying christmas presents for my parents, so it's good when they tell me what they'd like. our kettle that we use a lot is wonky and possibly a fire hazard, so my dad had suggested i get a new one for my mom. tonight i was watching shrek 3 with rachel and my dad and he suddenly blurts out "oh! i know what i want for christmas! a slingshot! so i can shoot at squirrels who come near our house!" i know, it's a horrible thing to imagine but i was still amused by my dad. we had a squirrel problem in our attic for quite awhile this summer. we called in some wildlife control guy after a month so it's gone now but i guess my dad is still hugely paranoid about it.

gimme that christian side hug

The Savage Love column in this week's NOW Magazine mentioned something about Christian side hugs and we were wondering what the heck they were. There were two guys reading the column sitting at the table next to us at brunch today and they were wondering what it was as well, even asking their two waitress friends and no one knew. Adam just sent me a link explaining what it was and I watched the rap video which promotes these Christian side hug things. I think it's ridiculous. I love the police siren noises and gunshot sounds in the song, ugh.

So I think I need to test it out a few more times, but I'm pretty sure the Cold-FX worked cos I've been feeling pretty not-sick compared to how I was feeling on Friday and it usually takes me ages to get better. It has magic powerz!

adam showed me this video and i liked it a lot. i haven't decided if i love the song more than mariah carey's "fantasy" though (which sampled off genius of love), because mariah rules forever.

believe in it, and then befriend it

there is a pretty crappy and tiny chinese plaza at victoria park and mcnicoll. i am only at the restaurant there when we have dinner with family but we were there yesterday trying to kill time. there was a bakery and i saw these cute panda butter cookies that i've never seen before. they are yummy too. i need more cute cookies in my life.

i dunno if i told you about this, but i signed up for a shirt making class at the workroom. i love button up shirts and i want to be able to make custom fit ones for myself and my friends. last night was my second class. it's been going sort of okay for the most part, but i've been stressing out over it. i'm the slowest in the class and probably the least experienced in sewing and ask the teacher a million questions. most of the time i have no idea what i'm doing and have a feeling that the end result will be crappy. i bought this beige-y fabric with a blue and red flower pattern all over it, a white and blue grid pattern one, and some checked flannel fabric. my initial goal was to work on two at the same time but i haven't been working very hard. we'll see how it goes. i will need lots of practice before i make something for someone who isn't me.

if they had a cardigan making class i'd be all up ons that too.

my friend started a blog that's associated with our zine and posted this video on it that i found really sweet. piano stairs in public would be awesome

i visited my sister in ottawa this weekend and it was great seeing her. we went to a the most serene republic show. i haven't been following the band for awhile but they played a lot of older ones i liked. meligrove band was supposed to open but they had h1n1 or something. afterwards we met up with rachel's friends and went clubbing. i felt a bit awkward at times but whatever. one of her friends kept on saying it was a huge sausage fest and kept on freaking out everytime he thought there were too many gyrating male butts near him. on sunday we went to a vintage clothing show and it was packed, son. i picked up a brooch that was shaped like a feather. then she prepared me dinner and waited with me for the bus that went to the airport.

i don't know why, but it was a very good weekend. one of the best, maybe.

here is a neat video. i like the mustard shirt on the couch plucking at the guitar on the table.
